I am welsh so i know the situation quite well just wanted to see other's opinions. But you have to live in welsh speaking wales to really know how welsh is. Where i live english is by far the minority as it has been for 2000 years its never been the majority language here.
Also take note that 41.27% of school children between the ages 5 - 15 can write, read and speak welsh fluently.

There is an advert on in the cinema at the moment for bbc radio 4 comedy.
Its just a black screen with excerpts of some comedy routines.
Who is the the welsh comedian who talks about giving a tramp some money, then the tramp asks for some more and he says something like 'there has to be a point when i stop giving you money because then i would be the tramp.'
And any links to a video of this sketch would be great.

I went to a Welsh language Junior school and can still pretty much speak welsh fluently. However, I've heard written Welsh (past junior school!) is rather different from spoken Welsh and I'd really like to learn to write in Welsh well enough to use it in a professional capacity. Does anyone know of any courses online or otherwise that could help me improve my written Welsh or even gain a qualification to put on my CV? Thank you! Diolch yn fawr!

I'd like something in Old Welsh, or better yet British. I doubt there is any place on the planet I can find this, but there's no hurt asking.

Im a Bulllet for my Valentine fan and theyre from Wales, and the way they speak sounds like a British accent. I was just wanting to know if the language Welsh was just an accent or is it actually another language where its nothing like English, such as Spanish? I know this is a confusing question but i really cant think of any other way to word it.

Does anyone know of any films I can get in the US with people speaking Welsh. Or any websites that has sound files (preferably with full sentences spoken). Also, can someone recommend a website or audiobook that teaches pronunciation with soundfiles so I can hear it. Thanks in advance.

Seeing as the Welsh left to protect their heritage in the first place it would be a betrayel if it was allowed to fade away.

How is it that the welsh language sounds so different to Irish?
I never heard welsh till weeks ago on the channel S4C on a docamentary on Rhydian. Fabulous singer by the way. I was surprised that Welsh language sounded so different to the Irish language. How is this they are both Celtic languages. There is no comparison in the sounds.
I think it is great that ye have a channel for Welsh. How long do ye have it for? It came up on Sky in Ireland about a year ago, not sure.
We have channel for Irish in Ireland called TG4.
Thanks that makes sense. Ye have had that T.V station ages so. Tg4 only around about 11 or 12 years.
Do many of ye speak welish?

okay, so i was thinking about being a foreign exchange student in wales, except i don't want to spend that much money unless i'm going to at least start learning another langauge (welsh) i know that most people in wales don't even know welsh, and that the streets are labeled in welsh and english, but isn't there a place where they only speak welsh..........? that would be really nice because welsh has always intrigued me, and i can say a lot, but i don't think i'm pronouncing the words right, and i'm probably way off on the connecting verbs, which are really important..........tell me your info....thanks:) peace

I go to Wales quite a bit and have often thought of learning to speak Welsh but when I was there, although all the signs are in Welsh and English, only one person I came across spoke Welsh, and he changed to English when he realised the person he was speaking to didn't understand him. Is the Welsh language just something that isn't used any more and are the signs just there for the minority who can't speak English or do people in Wales still actively use the language?

I have a Welsh Corgi Pembroke and whenever I put her in her cage, she grumbles and I tell her to be quiet and she grumbles some more. It is really funny, but is this normal Corgi behavior?

I am looking for somewhere I can find the phonetic pronunciation for the Welsh lyrics for the old Welsh lullaby "ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT". I have the lyrics in both English and Welsh but want to learn the song in Welsh to sing at church for Christmas. Anyone have any ideas? Have already tried the web - no luck.

After reading answers from other questions,it is obious to me that most people dont know a thing about the Welsh language.I speak it fluently, diolch yn fawr, but most people think of it as a dying language that no-one cares about.Or,even more annoying, mix it up with a toatally different language gaelic.Welsh is from Wales and Gaelic is from Scotland,to simplify it for Americans reading this.More than 20% of us welsh speak it and many more have(50%)a basic understanding of it.iT is used and very alive,so proudly Spoken by many a countrymens tounge, including mine. So,if think otherwise, have a view or something to say....ANSWER NOW!!!!!

I don't know any Welsh people who don't speak it,and found it shocking when i travelled down to the southern part of Wales and heard hardly any spoken.....can you imagine being English/French/German and going to a part of England/France/Germany and found out they couldn't speak their own language....very strange indeed.
