random question for Welsh people….?

what I want to know is, are there any Welsh-speaking people in Wales who cannot speak English? do you know any or have you heard of it?
I mean, obviously there are people who speak at home in Welsh, take their schooling in Welsh and might effectively ending up very rarely speaking English, but that is not what I mean. I mean people who actually cannot speak any English or only have a really basic knowledge of it, like in the same way an English person might know a few words of French or something? weird question I know, just curious!

How did Donny Osmond learn how to sing Myfanwy?

How did Donny Osmond learn how to sing the welsh song Myfanwy?

Do you think I should move to Merthyr Tydfil?

My family think of me as a troubled person and think I need a landscape change... They suggest Merthyr... I live in Singapore right now, but I'm not Asian. And, I can't speak Welsh, though I understand most Welsh people speak English. Should I do it?

Have you ever gone to Wales, and gone in a bar or a shop or a cafe, and theres Welsh people in there talking to each other in English, but when they hear you speak, they start to talk to each other in Welsh?
Let me point out, I would never be so arrogant as to be offended by welsh people speaking welsh when in wales! So why arent they speaking welsh in the first place? They are always speaking english, then they hear an english person, and switch to welsh!

(WELSH ONLYY!!) Homework for school!?

We have to write an email to someone in another school, and i was wondering what the following is translated in welsh:

What school do you go to?

How many brothers and/or sisters have you got?

shouldn't the prince of Wales speak Welsh?

I'm choosing my GCSE options at the moment...
Which ones are important for Speech and Language Therapy?

And also, do you happen to know an English/Welsh university where you can study speech and lang therapy... or just something like it?

Thank you!
xxx

So, I go to a welsh school, and I get detention if I speak English in school. I was just wondering if it's legal. Wouldn't it go against my rights for freedom of speech? Is there some legislation against/for it? If so, I'd be grateful if someone could show it to me..

There IS a contract they ask us to sign at the beginning of every year saying that we promise to speak welsh, but most people (including me) don't sign it.

Thanks. :)
Sigh.. Can someone show me proof, please? Because imo that goes against our rights to freedom of speech.
And, no, it's not a private school.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE SHOW ME PROOF?! -.-

Welsh translation of phrase needed?

I'm looking for the Welsh translation of "what does not destroy me, only makes me stronger" done by a native or fluent speaker if at all possible. I speak another language outside of English and I know how online translators are just gibberish for phrases :)

Welsh, Scottish and Irish relationships?

I hear a lot about Scottish, Welsh and Irish opinions of the English. I'm wondering what the Irish, Scottish, and Welsh think about each other (other Celtic groups welcome too). I am just wondering because each country that retains a Celtic identity today talks about their own Celtic culture a lot, but I never hear what they think about each other. I personally am mostly Scottish, Welsh, and Norwegian, but I have some French and German in there too, so I would also be interested in anything people have to say about Celtic, Norse, and Anglo-Saxon opinions of each other since they historically effected each other so much, and because of how my own ancestry plays into it.

I've been sent this message but I don't speak Welsh. The person sent it cos he knew it'd annoy me trying to figure it out. Anyways, here it is.

Gobeithia ach yn meddu yourself.
Fi m yn gwneud 'i!
Fi m f***ing yn gwneud 'i!
Fi m f***ing Mozart!
Canfod 'ch 'n ebrwydd.
Thanks Cymro i'r Carn for that. I couldn't tell what on earth it was. Could you translate some of the words for me so I can get some idea of what he was trying to say.

As a Welsh man I wish I had 2 pence for every time I have heard the following quoted as a gospel truth;

" I walked into a pub in North Wales and everybody was speaking English - but when they realised I was English they all switched to Welsh!" (insert shock and suprise and perhaps some racist undertones here)

This awful piece of casual racism fails in the following ways.

1: Why would a bunch of people who speak Welsh as a first language prefer to communicate in English in their own pub? Novelty? For practice?

2: Why should an English manwoman/facist care if the locals communicate in their OWN SODDING LANGUAGE!!

This ridiculous myth has been trotted out more times than the old chestnut...

"I'm not a racist but..."

Next time somone tells you that this happened to them... tell them they are a liar and a racist to boot.

Honest to god I heard this story THREE FUCKING TIMES today! If it was really true every pib in Wales would full of the fucking English 24/7.

Help With Learning Welsh?

I'm looking to learn Welsh (for free) any programs you could recomend? Or even if you are Welsh yourself maybe a few tips.

I speak Welsh but as a second language and I'm South-Walian. I saw a North-Walian call someone a 'gnawas chiclyd' the other day and I'd love to know exactly what that means! (It makes me sad they don't teach welsh swear words, haha!) I tried googling to no avail as I'm guessing it's colloquial! :D
Os wyt ti'n gwbod rhan neu'r holl peth, mi fyddai'n falch iawn o glywed beth mae'n eu feddwl!
Diolch! :D

How do you say Greetings Grandmother in Welsh?

I am actually looking for a little help on how to say a few things:

Greetings, Grandmother and Grandfather, Thank-you for this day, thank-you for my life, I love you.

I speak English (in Canada!) and could use some help with pronunciation as well.

Thanks!

It does have a tiny bit of slang in it but if you speak Welsh, it shouldn't be hard to work out :)

does nid angen ddynas.....' neith fy ddwy law cadw "FO" yn gynas
Anyone know what this means?

Hwyl a spri

How come many scots don`t support Epl clubs when the Irish and welsh do? The english league have had many great scots footballers and managers.Sir Alex ferguson is the best manager but I never hear scottish people talk about him?? I believe they should be proud.

I have no idea what to write about, help!?

I've got to write two stories for school.
One in english, and one in welsh :/

The theme for the welsh one is "Celwydd" (Which means lies in welsh)
The english ones theme is "write a story with based on any genre" Not exactly the best theme in the world :/

Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, could you please answer my other question if you have the time?

I wanna pick up some of their vocabulary (just for the heck of it) and at the same time enjoy a movie. Any suggestions as to some authentic english/british/UK movies that i would enjoy? (not the mainstream american movies) Please list as many as you would like. I appreicate it!

English to (Northern) Welsh Translation?

How do I say "I really enjoyed spending the night with you in the linen closet" in Welsh?

Note: By "spending the night," I mean passing the time together, talking, cuddling, etc. I do not mean actual sleeping or anything sexual by it.

I prefer answers from fluent Welsh speakers. Please do not use online translation programs.

What is the best way to learn welsh?

I'm thinking about trying to learn some of the basics of the Welsh language, with the hope of progressing to a more competent level of understanding, could anybody recommend where to start and any tips for picking up the language quickly?

Thanks.

Survey: Do you like the welsh accent?

I think it can sound quite nice, but if it's too strong, and I talk to them for aaages, it starts to annoy me a bit, lol. Just randomly wondering what others think! (:

I'm getting this as a tattoo and now know how to say it in North/Gogg, but as I'm from South Wales it makes no sense to get it as a North Welsh translation.

Thanksss.

Welsh myths and legends?

For my english homework for the eisteddfod we have been asked to "write a short story with a maximum of 100 words which incorporates elements of Welsh culture such as myth or legend", however when i search for welsh myths or legends on google i couldn't find any and wondered if someone could please give me some ideas of welsh myths i could incorporate into my short story. thankyou :)
please give me the main details to the story too please, or just something i could incorporate without making it too obvious.
