The cheapest accomodation I have found in Wales is in Betws-y-Coed. I want to go to practise my Welsh but I cannot afford the travel to South Wales as I am from the north of England.
Betws-y-Coed is close(r) and is supposedly in an area where a lot of people speak Welsh. Is this true? I was under the impression more Welsh speakers are in the north, but apparently it is the south-west.

I hate living in South Wales, I would rather live in Germany. I'm not proud of being Welsh but then again I don't speak Welsh or have a Welsh background. I know my ancestors background is German, Irish (In Wexford, and that was founded by Vikings), Polish and English.
I want to be German!!
Would you ever like to change your nationality?
It's embarrassing being from Wales. Welsh people are so pathetically retarded, it annoys me!!

I moved to South Wales and Live 6 mile north west of Swansea, What is the problem with North Wales have against the South, is it cause South normally speak English and the North only Welsh, but what i have found that South Wales do sometimes speak Welsh manily at schools or in the Work place ?
Is there another reason that i missed out why they hate each other more then the English

ie;
That we have sex with sheep!
That we are all good singers!
That we all hate the English!
That we all speak with the same accent even though Wales has two main accents/dialects which are totally different!
That we all work in mines even though the coal mines are in South Wales only!
That we are all called names like Dai, Dafydd o'r Myfanwy!

I'm getting this as a tattoo and now know how to say it in North/Gogg, but as I'm from South Wales it makes no sense to get it as a North Welsh translation.
Thanksss.

We are planning to try for our 2nd child next year and my husband and I were just having a general chat about names.
Our daughter is called 'Seren' meaning star so we were looking along the same lines for our 2nd eg sunshine, sky
Unfortunately we are both from south wales but have little grasp of the welsh language so any translations would be great!
Both boys and girls please, many thanks x
You can pronouce it either way, but we emphasise the first syllable in Seren, eg SEH-ren. Thanks for all your suggestions, they are great x

I am British and I live in Wales. Why do so many youngster claim they are just Welsh. Britain has mixed with many races and we are all the same now. What really bothers me is that alot of people from South Wales have English or Irish ancestors and they claim they are Welsh. Many don't speak Welsh there for they are not Welsh.
GET A GRIP YOU BRITISH NOT WELSH.
I WOULD RATHER BE BRITISH THAN BE BRANDED AS WELSH.

Do more speak welsh than speak Irish Gaelic?
Are there more second language welsh speakers than second language Irish Gaelic speakers?
Do more speak Irish as a native language than speak welsh as a native language ?
And so on .
The North isn't more welsh speaking than the south . Wales is more linguistically divided by west to east. The West is more welsh speaking than the east. But there is a welsh speaker in every village in Wales.
Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire are both in the south and so is northern Swansea, Northern Pembrokeshire, Western Neath and portal bot and Powys all these places are more welsh speaking than English.
You have to be fluent in welsh to teach and primary basis yes. And yes every university in wales has an "Adran Gymraeg" where all courses are through the medium of welsh, In ireland im rold it's only irish that can be studied not other subjects through that medium. Also how come the irish on Roadsigns is italica and seems assif it is not as important as english?
Also Ireland only has one county where over half the population speak's irish on a daily basis welsh has 4 . with larger populations in all.
No no, I am so sorry if it's coming across like that!
I have great respect for the Irish and their language. I am so sorry. I am doing Celtic Language studies and am just trying to compare. I am not trying in anyway to make Welsh superior. We welsh aren't like that and i certainly don't want you to think that. I am really sorry.

I am English, but I can speak all the Celtic languages, including Welsh....In South Wales, barely anyone speaks it, but towards the North, don't a lot of people speak it?
