WELSH SPEAKERS or anybody who has lived/stayed…….?

in wales do you start speaking welsh if you want to have a private convo in a public place for example train, bus, etc ,

non welsh speakers do you find this offencive if welsh speakers change there language when 'you' enter the room or carriage or bus etc

or do you just accept it as part of normal life in a welsh speaking area ??

I'm asking this because on the way home from college me and a friend were having a private convo in welsh when this english man comes up to us and tells us that we should not be speaking our language as other people find it offence if (we were standing in the doorway of a 2 carriage train because there were no seats ) we carried our convo on and had him glaring at us for the next hour !!

do you think its acceptable to ask somebody not to speak there own countries language in there own country ??

i would understand if we were in england or scotland because its nice to respect the other countries if you can (as in speak there lang)

your opinions ??

xx

Mae hyn yn digwydd trwy’r amser ac mae’n hiliol atom ni. Paid a gwrnado arno, Maent yn byw mewn byd ffug lle maent yn credu taw dim ond Saesneg sydd digon da yn y byd, Maent wastad yn dweud ein bod ni’n siarad Cymraeg i wneud iddyn teimlo’n bell ac yn unig. Os maent mor anghyfforddus mae ganddynt y dewis i ddysgu’r iaith os nad ydynt yn dysgu’r iaith twll ei tinau.
Cymraeg yw iaith y Cymry nid Saesneg

ThIs happens all the time they don’t understand that welsh is our first language, If they feel so excluded then theyre the rude ones and should learn the language, lkeep speaking welsh people are too easy to turn to english these days.

Welsh is the language of the Welsh People

To hell with him and his rude looks, I say. I’m American; and although it’s a bit different here in our nation of immigrants and their descendants, here in Texas it is not unusual to hear plenty of people speaking in Spanish; only really insecure or egotistical people believe that the Spanish speakers are making snide comments about the ones who don’t understand them.
The English man had no business intruding on your conversation to tell you how you should be speaking. His behaviour was unacceptable and rude.
I haven’t been to Wales yet, by the way; though I have spent some time in Ireland, and took great delight in hearing the Irish language spoken by a few people in the West…and even better, I was able to understand a little of it (I’ve studied the language a bit myself). When I get to Wales one day, I hope I do hear people actually speaking in Welsh as well as English; it is the original language of your land, and you are right to take some pride in it by continuing to speak it.
