I know about the Welsh language and I’ve even visited Cymru once. Although I cannot speak it, I can order a pint in Welsh
I know it exists, but it after seeing the name Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, I decided that it was a bit too much for me, although the syllables look lovely.
You would be amazed how many people know about the welsh language. I live in Canada and have known about it since childhood. We actually learned about it in junior school. I can’t speak or read it, but then there are many languages that I can’t speak or read. I know we were taught that it was a language in danger of being lost, much as the native languages here, are at risk of being lost.
the vast, vast majority of English people KNOW about it, how stupid do you think we are?!
speaking and understanding it is of course a different matter
Because, not liveing in Wales we have little use for it. How much do you know about the suffolk dialect?
I’ll bet it’s less than I know about Welsh.
With all due respect the Sussex dialect/accent is merely a subset of the English language as spoken in England, it is not a language.
Welsh on the other hand is an anciet Celtic tongue that can trace its histroy more than 5000 years in the past.
But people do know about the Welsh language and living in Thailand I am amazed at how many know of Wales. The Thais I know are fascinated by the language and when taught how to say a few words can get the sounds right even the more difficult ‘ch’, ‘ll’ and ‘dd’ ‘th’. ‘Ng’ at the beginning of words does not phase them either as it is a common form in Thai.
But ‘f” is a bit of a bummer as there is no ‘v’ sound in Thai
They don’t even know about Welshland never mind the lingo
Lets face it no one wants to speak a lingo that makes them sound like a Retard
